There has been a penetration of powerful smartphones at a mid-tier segment by the Chinese brands such as Xiaomi, Honor and OnePlus. Samsung now aim is to take on smartphones from its Chinese rivals, the OnePlus 5T, Honor V10 and Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 with a new Samsung Galaxy A8+ which is similarly priced. Samsung Galaxy A8+ is an interesting device as it brings premium design and features at an affordable package. In fact, they have added some features right from the Samsung premium range of smartphones. Samsung has integrated the beautiful Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy A8+, but with 18.5:9 ratio full HD+ panel instead of 2K display found on Galaxy S8 & Note 8. Like most phones with a glass-based body, the Galaxy A8+ is tad slippery and fingerprint magnet. And to top it off, the phone weighs 172 grams which is bit heavy than the most of the smartphones available in the market. So we would definitely recommend getting a phone case for this device. Talking about the back, Samsung seems to have learned from their previous mistake on Galaxy S8, because now the fingerprint scanner is located below the camera, not beside it. Now, I can easily unlock my smartphone with one hand. Apart from fingerprint scanner, the Galaxy A8+ has included facial recognition which works like charm.
The Galaxy A8 comes with its own in-house Exynos SoC processor sporting an Octa-Core processor (2.2GHz dual + 1.6GHz Hexa) and 6GB RAM. It handles most of the task and games with a breeze. Daily tasks never show any hiccups including multitasking, but the device UI feels little bit late to respond. 3D games run very well too, we didn’t notice any performance or major heating issues when playing games such as Real Racing 3 and Modern Combat 4.
What about the camera?
Talking about camera, the Samsung Galaxy A8+ sports dual front-facing cameras with a combo of 16-megapixel and 8-megapixel f/1.9 aperture sensor. It is also the first Samsung smartphone to come with dual front cameras. The main purpose of dual cameras is to capture selfies with bokeh effect.
- Exynos 7885 Octa
- 6GB RAM
- 64GB internal storage
- 16MP + 8MP front camera
- 16MP rear camera
- 3500 mAh battery
Samsung’s entry to the best selfie-centric smartphone will change the game and Galaxy A8+ is a testament to that. Though the specs seem to be above average, it has other worthy features like super AMOLED display, large 6 gigs of RAM, plenty of storage with 64GB internal memory.
